It sounds like there are documents in the print spooler service, for your old printer. This will stop you from being able to delete it.

So, I went on to delete these older drivers installed, one is the deskjet printer driver obtained from hobbes.nmsu.edu and the other is the HP IIISi PS delivered

AutoCAD is Very particular to how it prints to printers. Printer drivers are not all the same...maybe your grandma's needs to be updated. Check the website of her printer's manufacturer for the most current WinXP driver. Mac OS X includes PCL drivers which should work, if you can solve the physical connection problem. A USB to parallel adapter or network print server should be OK. I have a LaserJet 6MP (a mere 11 years old) which is still going strong, though I think I'll need to replace its second toner cartridge soon.
